Why Fitted Kitchens Require Proper Joinery
Standard modular units are designed for square rooms with level floors and plumb walls. Most homes in West Bridgford and Mapperley Park are none of those things.
Period Property Challenges
Belfast sink alcoves, chimney breast corners, and ceiling heights that vary by up to 100mm across a single run cannot be solved with off-the-shelf filler pieces.
West Bridgford Layouts
Earlier wall removals have left L-shaped footprints with low steel beams and floor level changes between rooms.
The Park Estate
Original door surrounds and period cornicing must be worked around rather than removed.

This is the difference between a kitchen that looks fitted and one that actually is.
Supply and Fit or Fit Only?
We offer both options depending on your preference.

Supply and Fit
We source the units through our trade accounts (typically Howdens or equivalent), manage delivery, and handle the full installation. This gives you a single bill and a single point of responsibility.
Fit Only
You source the kitchen yourself and we manage the installation. We ask to review the specification before you order. Some unit ranges have compatibility issues with period walls or irregular floor levels. For fit-only installations, see our kitchen fitters page.
Trade Coordination
In both cases, we coordinate the associated trades. You do not need to separately book a plumber, an electrician, or a tiler.
Nottingham Properties and What to Expect
West Bridgford
kitchen renovations typically involve a combined kitchen-diner footprint where a wall has previously been removed. Common challenges include low steel beams from earlier work, quarry-tiled floors the client wants to keep, and chimney breast alcoves.
Mapperley Park
Mapperley Park villas often have kitchen extensions at the rear with non-square corners, variable ceiling heights, and original Belfast sink alcoves. We use scribing techniques, custom filler pieces, and adjustable base panels.
The Park Estate
Original coving, stone floors, and period door surrounds all need to be worked around cleanly. Conservation area considerations apply to any external changes, but internal kitchen installations do not generally require consent.
Wollaton and Beeston
1930s and Edwardian properties follow similar patterns to West Bridgford. Large kitchen-diner footprints, retained period floors, and original chimney corners are the most common challenges.

The Kitchen Installation Process
1. Survey Visit
We visit, measure, and identify every complicating factor. Irregular ceilings, retained floors, and appliance positions are all noted and quoted specifically.
2. Design and Specification
We advise on unit selection and layout, particularly where the room has period constraints. If a wall removal is required, we coordinate the structural engineer assessment.
3. Ordering and Scheduling
Materials are ordered once the specification is agreed. We book a start date and confirm the programme in advance.
4. Structural Work
Wall removals and steel beams come first. Plumbing and electrical work follow, completed before walls are closed up.
5. Unit Installation
Units are installed, worktops are measured and fabricated, then appliances are connected and commissioned.
6. Sign-Off
We walk through the finished kitchen with you before we leave. Any snagging is resolved immediately.
