Bathroom Fitting in Nottingham’s Period Properties
Victorian Properties in The Park and Mapperley Park
Bathroom fitting in Nottingham’s Victorian and Edwardian suburbs is more complex than a modern-property installation. Bathrooms added as bedroom conversions or rear extensions have non-standard dimensions and original floorboards that may not carry heavy stone tiles. Cast-iron soil stacks often sit in the wrong position for a modern layout. We also provide expert bathroom renovation.
West Bridgford 1930s Bathrooms
West Bridgford 1930s bathrooms have more conventional layouts. Their lath-and-plaster walls must be replaced with moisture-resistant board before tiling. This step is not optional if the tiling is to last, and it is not visible in a low-cost quote.
Wollaton and Beeston
Lath-and-plaster is present in properties built before the mid-1940s. Bathrooms in these areas are being upgraded as part of broader home improvements. Combining a bathroom renovation with a kitchen fit and stud wall in one programme saves scheduling time.
Structural Preparation Included
We carry out all structural preparation as part of the installation. You do not need a separate contractor.

The Full Scope of a Bathroom Fit
We handle the full sequence from strip-out to finishing.

Strip-Out and Assessment
The existing bathroom is removed. Walls and floors are assessed. Lath-and-plaster, inadequate substrates, and any drainage issues are identified at this stage.
Structural Preparation
Lath-and-plaster is removed and replaced with moisture-resistant plasterboard. Original floorboards are assessed for load capacity. Where heavy stone tiles are specified, boards are replaced with rigid tile backer board.
First Fix
Plumbing and electrical first fix is completed before any boarding or tiling begins.
Waterproofing
Tanking is applied to wet areas. Wetroom floors receive sloped screed and linear drain installation to direct water to the drain.
Tiling and Finishing
Wall and floor tiles are laid. Sanitaryware is installed and commissioned. Vanity units, mirrors, accessories, and finishing joinery are fitted last.

Wetrooms vs. Traditional Bathrooms

Why Wetrooms Suit Period Properties
Wetrooms remove the visual barrier of a shower tray and enclosure, gaining a sense of space in a small room. Victorian and Edwardian bathrooms converted from bedrooms are often just large enough to do this well.
Preparation Requirements
Lath-and-plaster must be replaced. The floor must be assessed and likely replaced with a rigid substrate. Tanking is applied to all surfaces, and gradient screed must be laid correctly for the drain position.
The Result
The preparation cost is higher than a standard shower enclosure. A wetroom produces a cleaner, longer-lasting result in a period property.
We advise on the right approach for your specific room at survey.
