What Stud Wall Installation Involves
A stud wall is a timber or metal-framed partition, lined with plasterboard, insulated, and finished to a decorated standard.
Standard Construction
In a straightforward case, the wall is built, plasterboarded, plastered both sides, and decorated. In practice, stud walls in Nottingham’s period properties involve considerably more.
Period Property Considerations
The ceiling junction must integrate with original coving or cornicing. The floor must accommodate the new sole plate without damaging retained original tiles or floorboards.
Plumbing and Door Integration
An en suite partition requires plumbing pipes within the frame before the boards go on. A door opening needs a frame braced for the leaf weight.

We manage all of this as part of the installation.
Common Stud Wall Projects in Nottingham

Home Office from a Large Bedroom
West Bridgford 1930s and 1950s semis have rear bedrooms that frequently run to 16–20m². Partitioning part of a large rear bedroom is the most cost-effective way to create a dedicated, sound-insulated home office without an extension.
En Suite Creation
A stud wall partition with first-fix plumbing incorporated is the first stage of an en suite installation. Once the partition is complete, the bathroom fit proceeds in the new space.
Period Property Integration
In Mapperley Park and The Park, the right approach is to remove the cornice at the partition line and reset it so the profile runs continuously through both rooms. The finished partition reads as original from both sides.
Conservation Area Properties
The Park estate has specific restrictions on internal structural changes. Non-structural stud wall partitions do not typically require conservation area consent. We advise on any constraints at the survey visit.
Building Regulations
Standard Partitions
Building regulations approval is not required for a standard non-structural stud wall. It must not affect fire escape routes or alter the load-bearing structure.
Electrical Work
If the partition incorporates new electrical circuits, the electrical work requires Part P compliance. This is managed by the electrician coordinated as part of the job.
En Suite Drainage
If you are creating an en suite bathroom behind the partition, the drainage installation is subject to Building Regulations Part H. We manage this as part of the job.
